Save, reuse and recover a page model

Keep your team’s model on its Confluence page, reuse it where useful and recover an earlier version when needed.

Save to the page

  1. Make your model or layout change in Edit.
  2. Save a named view if you need to retain its arrangement.
  3. Choose Save to page and wait for confirmation. Ctrl+S or Command+S uses this destination when there are unsaved changes.
  4. Close the editor and inspect the reloaded macro. Reopen Edit to verify important changes.

Publishing the surrounding Confluence page and saving the model attachment are separate operations. A page layout change may need Publish/Update; an editor session needs Save to page. Closing the editor alone does not save its unsaved content.

Importing replaces the editing session

Open local model… and New model… change what you are editing. Once you save, that content becomes the model for the current attachment. To create a separate diagram, start from a new macro identity rather than overwriting a diagram you still need.

Reuse versus copy

Configuring another macro to use an existing attached diagram shares the same model. For an independent copy, obtain the JSON through the page's attachment controls, open it in a new diagram's editor and save it there. Confirm that you selected the new macro before saving.

Back up or recover

The page attachment is named revelation-model-<diagram ID>.json. Use Confluence's attachment and version controls to locate and download the required version, subject to permissions. Keep a copy of the current version before recovery. Open the recovered JSON in the intended diagram's editor, inspect it, then Save to page.

Attachment history is separate from the page body's history. Do not assume reverting page text necessarily reverts the model attachment.

When saving fails

Keep the editor open, note the error and avoid refreshing immediately. Check page access and connectivity. Coordinate simultaneous edits; version checks are not an editing lock. If the outcome is uncertain, inspect the saved model before retrying. Copying JSON from the drawer can help preserve session data if the clipboard is available.
