Make and share palettes

Choose colours your readers can distinguish, then reuse them across your models.

Create a palette

  1. Open Menu → Colour mapping… and choose Your palettes….
  2. Use New palette from to copy a built-in palette or one of your own.
  3. Give it a descriptive name and edit its colours.
  4. Review the contrast and colour-separation feedback, select the palette in colour mapping and save the model.

Match the kind to the data

Use separate categorical colours for owners or service types. A ramp progresses from light to dark for ordered or numeric values. A through-a-middle palette uses a neutral centre for values on either side of a midpoint. Only suitable palettes are offered for a mapping.

Check readability

The palette editor reports close colour pairs, including a red-green colour-vision comparison, and flags colours too dark for black text. Treat these as practical checks, not a guarantee that every reader can distinguish every value. Keep labels and the legend meaningful as well.

Share with another model

In Revelation, Export writes palettes.json; Import adds palettes from that file. Duplicate names are given a number. Deleting an in-use palette replaces it with a built-in palette.

Palette file downloads depend on the browser environment. In Confluence, do not rely on iframe downloads; transfer the model through its attachment when you need to carry saved palettes to another environment. Import and export of a whole model are described in file workflows.
